Virus Alert

This is to inform that a computer virus called 'blackworm' has been activated on 3rd February and would strike on third day of every month. This virus destroys and overwrites the content of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. In the worst case it destroys and crashes the computer system also. This virus is known by several names, including BlackWorm, Nyxem, Mywife, Work-Grew A, and Kama Sutra.

The virus spreads through e-mail attachments or shared files and has dozens of subject header variations, including one promising Karma Sutra themed pictures. It also enters the address book of your email and propagates itself through email to those addresses from your address book.

Once a system in the network is infected, the virus will start deleting the files and will try to infect all shared file systems that it has access to.

In this regard IT Section wants to reassure the office that we have been monitoring this virus in the office for last week but nevertheless we would like to request all Internet users not to open any unsolicited e-mails and attachments.
